Mechanical properties of Ni-based solid solution alloys: A first principles study
نویسندگان
چکیده
Present work describes the structural stability and mechanical properties of Ni-based binary and ternary alloys. These alloys have been evaluated using first principles density functional theory (DFT) within generalized gradient approximation (GGA). The equilibrium lattice constant values of the phase in these alloys are in good agreement with the experimental data obtained by X-ray diffraction. The values of formation energy per atom of the ternary alloys are considerably lower than the Ni–16Cr binary alloy. These alloys satisfy the mechanical stability criteria in terms of elastic constants and possess ductile behaviour based on shear to bulk ratios. © 2017 Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, Centro de Ciencias Aplicadas y Desarrollo Tecnológico. EFFECT OF COMPOSITION AND MILLING TIME ON THE SYNTHESIS OF NANOSTRUCTURED Ni-Cu ALLOYS BY MECHANICAL ALLOYING METHOD
Ni and Cu elemental powder mixtures containing 25, 50, and 75% at Cu were subjected to mechanical alloying in a planetary ball mill under various milling times. Structural evolution was analyzed by means of X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. Experimental results indicated that nanostructured solid solution alloy powders having homogeneous distribution of Ni and Cu were formed b...
متن کاملMechanical Alloying as an Effective Way to Achieve Superior Properties of Fe–Co–Ni Binder Alloy
This study addresses the fabrication of nanocrystalline Fe–Co–Ni alloy using two operations: mechanical alloying (MA) of elemental powders and hot pressing (HP). The evolution of the phase composition and structure of the powder particles after MA was investigated. Ball milling with rotation speed 700 rpm for 15–20 min allows the production of a bcc Fe-based supersaturated solid solution. Durin...
متن کاملThe Effect of Milling Time on the Microstructural Characteristics and Strengthening Mechanisms of NiMo-SiC Alloys Prepared via Powder Metallurgy
A new generation of alloys, which rely on a combination of various strengthening mechanisms, has been developed for application in molten salt nuclear reactors. In the current study, a battery of dispersion and precipitation-strengthened (DPS) NiMo-based alloys containing varying amounts of SiC (0.5-2.5 wt %) were prepared from Ni-Mo-SiC powder mixture via a mechanical alloying (MA) route follo...
متن کاملAn investigation on metallurgical and mechanical properties of vacuum brazed Ti-6Al-4V to 316L stainless steel using Zr-based filler metal
Both Ti-6Al-4V and 316L stainless steels are widely used as engineering alloys. Fusion welding of these two alloys is not easily possible due to their incomplete solubility in each other. Brazing is one of the best choices for joining dissimilar alloys. In this study, wettability experiments were done at 940 and 970 ºC for 5, 15 and 30 min. Also, joining of these two alloys was carried out at 9...
